Product and signals

What Alert is, who it is for, and what it watches.

What is Alert?

Alert is a GTM platform for the Shopify ecosystem. It monitors 1.5M+ live Shopify stores, detects buying signals (competitor reviews, app installs and uninstalls, Shopify Plus upgrades, hiring, and competitor ads), and delivers each signal with the merchant's tech stack and contact details. The point is timing: reach the right merchant in the few weeks they are actually open to change, with the reason already in hand.

Who is Alert built for?

Shopify app companies and their sales and marketing teams first, because that is where the team came from. Three more groups read the same ecosystem for different reasons:

  • Agencies watching for merchants showing the early signs of a rebuild: a stack change, a burst of app churn, or a Plus migration in progress.
  • Investors tracking app-level install movement, churn, and category momentum as a leading indicator.
  • Operators and founders researching a category before committing a year to it.

If your customers are Shopify merchants, Alert tells you which ones have a reason to talk to you this week.

What buying signals does Alert track?

Five alert feeds, each one a separate view in the app:

  • Reviews: new reviews on the competitor apps you watch, with 1 to 3 star reviews surfaced as churn intent and the merchant's complaint summarized into a talking point.
  • App Moves: installs and uninstalls detected directly from the storefront, dated, per store.
  • Plus Upgrades: merchants that recently moved to Shopify Plus, a well-resourced buyer investing in their stack.
  • Job Postings: role-level hiring (retention, CX, ecommerce ops) that predicts a stack change.
  • Ad Radar: a visual feed of Meta ad creative so you can see what a merchant is pushing and how seriously they are spending.
What are the data vectors, and how are they different from alerts?

Alerts are events: something changed, here is who to contact. The data vectors are the always-on tables those events are drawn from, and they are browsable on their own:

  • Target Accounts: every merchant running an app on your watchlist, scored and ready to work.
  • Install Base: the installer list for any app, built from Alert's own crawl.
  • App Universe: a profile for every app in the Shopify App Store, with installs, churn, reviews, pricing, and developer details.
  • Agency Network: 10,000+ Shopify agencies with founder-level contacts.
  • Companies and Contacts: the merchant universe and the people behind it.
What does a review alert actually tell me?

Which merchant left which rating on which competitor app, when, what they complained about, and whether Alert's crawl currently sees that competitor on the merchant's storefront (a confirmed live install, not a guess). Each alert carries the merchant's stack, plan, and contact, and the AI assistant turns the complaint into an opening line.

How does Alert detect which apps a store runs?

From the storefront itself. Alert's crawler reads the public theme, scripts, web pixels, and app handles each store loads and resolves them against its app catalog. Because the same store is re-crawled on a rolling cadence, an app that appears or disappears between scans becomes a dated install or uninstall event. Alert owns this detection end to end; it is not a resold dataset.

How accurate are install and uninstall alerts?

Every move is classified before it reaches the feed. Changes caused by Alert's own detection improving (a new fingerprint lighting up stores that already ran the app) are separated from genuine merchant changes, and a two-strike guard prevents a flaky page load from registering as an uninstall. Only observed merchant moves are shown. Where a per-app ratio would be misleading because of a recent detector rollout, Alert withholds it rather than publish a number it cannot stand behind.

How does Alert know a store upgraded to Shopify Plus?

Plus status is confirmed from a licensed ecosystem feed and cross-checked against Alert's own storefront crawl, which reads the checkout and cart markers Plus stores expose. Recent upgrades surface in the Plus Upgrades feed with the store's stack, vertical, and contact attached, and the whole Plus base (85,000+ stores) is browsable with filters for country, vertical, revenue band, and installed tech.

Is the competitor ad feed a buying signal?

It is context more than a trigger. Ad Radar shows you what a merchant is spending on and what creative they are running right now, which makes outreach land with specificity. Every creative is cached at ingest so it stays viewable even after the ad stops running.

Data and coverage

Where the data comes from, how fresh it is, and how much of the ecosystem it covers.

Where does Alert's data come from?

Alert collects its own data from public ecosystem sources: merchant storefronts, the Shopify App Store, public job boards, public ad libraries, and public agency directories. The storefront crawl is first-party and continuous. Contact data is verified before it is shown, and Alert does not resell third-party lists.

How many stores, apps, and contacts does Alert cover?

As of the latest refresh: 1.5M+ live Shopify stores monitored, 500,000+ with a verified app stack, 85,000+ Shopify Plus stores, 4,000+ apps detected in the wild against a 21,000-app catalog, 10,000+ Shopify agencies, 800,000+ merchant contacts, and 365,000+ ad creatives on file. These numbers grow daily and the app shows live counts.

How fresh is the data?

The storefront crawl runs around the clock. Roughly 85% of the live universe is re-scanned inside 30 days and well over a third inside 7 days, and every re-scan is diffed against the previous one, so app moves carry the date the change was observed. Reviews and job postings stream in as they are published. Freshness, not list size, is the design goal: a weekly export is stale by design, a rolling re-crawl is not.

Does Alert cover stores outside the US?

Yes. Alert monitors the live Shopify universe globally and every vector can be filtered by country. Contact coverage is strongest in North America, the UK, the EU, and Australia.

What contact data comes with a signal?

Where available: the decision maker's name, role, verified email, and LinkedIn, plus the store's generic inboxes and social profiles. Company data includes plan (Shopify or Plus), vertical, estimated GMV band, product count, and the full detected app stack. Coverage varies by store; Plus stores have the highest contact coverage (above 80% with an email on file). In the app, name, domain, and email are one-click copy on every row.

How is contact data verified?

Emails are checked for deliverability before they are shown, and named contacts are matched to the merchant's domain rather than to a name lookup, which avoids the wrong-person problem common in generic enrichment. Generic inboxes are labeled as such so reps know what they are sending to.

How is the app catalog kept complete?

Alert tracks the full Shopify App Store catalog (21,000+ apps) and refreshes listings on a rolling basis. When the crawl finds an app handle on a storefront that is not yet in the catalog, the listing is harvested automatically, so new apps enter the universe as soon as merchants start installing them.

Can I see historical trends for an app?

Yes. App Universe profiles include daily snapshots of install base and App Store review velocity, captured from the day tracking began for that app, with honest framing while history is short. This is the view investors and operators use to read category momentum.

Working the signals

How a rep goes from alert to conversation without leaving the screen.

How do I act on an alert?

Every vector in the app is a working list. Copy the merchant, domain, and contact in one click, set pipeline status (New, Contacted, Replied, Won, Unqualified) inline, add notes, and open the merchant profile for the full picture. The built-in AI assistant or a one-click handoff to Claude or ChatGPT drafts the outreach for you.

Can I choose which competitors to track?

Yes. You build a competitor watchlist from the catalog, with no cap on how many apps you track. Every signal is matched against it, Target Accounts shows every merchant running a watchlisted app, and Install Base gives you the per-app installer list.

Does Alert have a built-in pipeline or do I need a CRM?

Alert has a lightweight pipeline built in: one status per merchant that stays consistent across every vector, with notes. Small teams run their entire motion inside it; larger teams use it as the triage layer in front of their CRM.

What does the AI assistant do?

It reads the signal and the merchant profile and drafts the outreach: subject line, opener tied to the specific review, install, or upgrade, and a short body in your voice. You can also hand the full profile to Claude or ChatGPT in one click if you prefer your own prompts.

How quickly do alerts reach me?

Storefront-derived signals (app moves, Plus upgrades) arrive as soon as the next crawl observes the change. Reviews and job postings arrive within minutes of being published. Everything lands in the in-app feed.

Can multiple people on my team use Alert?

Yes. Seats are unlimited on the single plan, and pipeline status and notes are shared across the workspace, so two reps never work the same merchant blind.

Integrations

Where the signals can go.

Does Alert integrate with my CRM?

The in-app pipeline is live today and Alert has no CRM integrations yet. Direct sync, webhooks, and API access are on the roadmap; tell us which CRM you run and it shapes the build order. See Integrations for the current list.

Can I export to CSV?

Deliberately, no. Alert is built to prevent the dump-and-leave pattern that turns buying signals into another cold list. Signals are worked in the app, where the context stays attached to the record.

Pricing and trial

One plan, no metering.

How much does Alert cost?

Free for the first 14 days, then one plan: $199 per month, billed monthly, cancel any time. It includes all five alert feeds, the full data platform (Target Accounts, Install Base, App Universe, Agency Network, Companies, Contacts), contact and company enrichment, the AI assistant, the lead pipeline, and unlimited seats. There are no per-seat or per-lead fees and no setup calls. Full detail on the pricing page.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every account starts with a 14-day free trial that unlocks the entire platform. We ask for a card up front so nothing pauses when the trial ends, but you are not charged during the trial. Alert shows your exact charge date and the days remaining every time you open it. Cancel in billing settings before day 15 and you pay nothing. No demo call required, though you can book one if you want a walkthrough.

Why is Alert priced per workspace instead of per seat?

Because per-seat pricing punishes teams for sharing signals. The value is the data scope (how many competitors you track and how much of the ecosystem you see), not how many people look at it, so the plan is priced on the workspace and seats are unlimited.

Is there an annual or enterprise plan?

The single monthly plan covers most teams. If you need an annual agreement, invoicing, a security review, or a larger data scope, contact us and we will set it up.

How do I cancel?

In the app, in one click. There is no lock-in and no retention call.

Security and compliance

Built on public data, operated with care.

Is Alert secure and enterprise-ready?

Alert is built on public ecosystem data and operated to enterprise standards: TLS 1.3 in transit, AES-256 at rest, workspace-level data isolation, role-based access, and deletion on request for merchants and individuals. A security overview is available for procurement reviews; see Security or request it.

Does Alert store my customers' data?

No. Alert does not connect to your Shopify store, your CRM data is never required, and nothing about your customers flows into the platform. Alert reads the public ecosystem; your workspace holds only your watchlist, pipeline statuses, and notes.

Is my watchlist visible to other customers?

No. Workspaces are isolated at the database layer. Your competitor watchlist, pipeline, and notes are visible only to your team.

How does Alert handle GDPR and CCPA?

Contact data is sourced from public business listings and storefronts, used for B2B outreach, and removed on request. Alert honors deletion and do-not-contact requests and documents its data handling in the privacy policy.

How Alert compares

The honest version of the comparison.

How is Alert different from a store directory like Store Leads or BuiltWith?

A directory answers which merchants exist and what they ran the last time a list was published. Alert answers which merchants have a reason to buy right now, because it re-crawls stores on a rolling cadence and turns the differences into dated events, then attaches the person to contact. Directories are a list; Alert is the timing and the reason.

How is Alert different from generic intent data (Bombora, 6sense, ZoomInfo intent)?

Generic intent platforms were never taught what the Shopify ecosystem is. They do not know what an app install means, cannot see a Plus migration, and have never read a one-star review on the App Store. Alert is built only for this ecosystem, so the signals are concrete events on a specific store rather than account-level topic surges.

Can I use Alert alongside Apollo, Clay, or my existing enrichment stack?

Yes, and many teams do. Alert supplies the who and the why (which merchant, which signal, which stack); your enrichment stack can add further contacts or sequences. Alert's contact layer is included, so most teams find they need less from the rest of the stack, not more.

Why not just scrape this myself?

You can scrape a storefront. Keeping 1.5M of them fresh, fingerprinting 4,000+ apps, classifying real moves from detector noise, resolving reviews to the right merchant, and attaching a verified contact is a data platform, not a script. Alert runs that platform so your team can spend its time selling.

Company and support

Who is behind Alert and how to reach them.

Who built Alert?

Operators who shipped their own apps into the Shopify App Store and worked on GTM teams that scaled apps past $10M in ARR. Alert is the instrument panel those teams never had. More on the about page.

How do I get support?

Email hello@alertcommerce.com or use the contact page. Product questions, data corrections, and feature requests all go to the same place and reach the people building the product.

I found a data error. What happens if I report it?

It gets fixed at the source. Because Alert owns its detection pipeline, a bad fingerprint, a misattributed review, or a stale contact can be corrected across every merchant it touched, not just the one you flagged.

How often does the product change?

Continuously. New detection vectors, data coverage, and workflow improvements ship weekly, and the platform is designed to be self-driving: signals flow without anyone on your side or ours babysitting a queue.
